FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long have you been a photographer?
I've been working as a professional photographer for 15 years. I started out my career working for other companies, but I started my own business and began working full-time for myself 10 years ago. I also have a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) in photography. I'm more passionate than ever about what I do!
What is the best time of day to do an outdoor session?
Typically I prefer to do an outdoor session about 2 hours before sunset. If your child is happier and more cooperative in the morning, I would suggest doing an early morning session.
What should we wear?
I don't have one specific answer to this, but for families I recommend that everyone's clothing goes together somewhat but I don't recommend everyone matching 100%. Usually it's best to stick with more solids than a lot of patterns. For a maternity session, I recommend that women wear a long, floor-length dress in a solid color. These types of dresses seem to photograph the best. For babies and toddlers, we have a large collection of outfits and accessories at the studio (mostly sized 0-12 months). These outfits can be used for a regular full-length photo session or for a mini session of your baby to capture a milestone in their first year. What do I need to bring to my newborn session?
You don't need to bring anything specific to your newborn session other than what you would normally have in your diaper bag and clothing for siblings and parents. Please also bring a pacifier and a hair brush if needed. We provide all of the newborn clothing, accessories, wraps and props for newborn sessions.
What is the turnaround time after my photo session?
After your session takes place, your photos will be edited and your proofing gallery will be ready to view within 2-3 weeks. At this time, you'll be able to decide what you want to purchase from your session. You can order digital copies of the images, prints, canvas gallery wraps, albums and other specialty items. The turnaround time to receive printed items depends of what type of item you order.
Does the session fee include prints or digital copies?
The session fee includes me taking and editing your photos, but prints and digital copies of your photos are sold separately from the session fee. Editing includes basic adjustments and enhancements to the photos. Final products that are purchased will have additional necessary touch-ups and enhancements done (such as extra skin touch-ups, etc.) to make the image look it's absolute best.
What is a digital copy and why is it so valuable?
A digital copy of an image is an electronic copy (not a printed copy) which can be downloaded once purchased. Think back to the "old days" when photographers used film. Instead of their cameras producing a digital image, the camera produced film negatives. The photographer would sell a package of photos to the client and would use the negatives to produce the prints purchased. Rarely would the photographer sell the negatives, but would keep them on file in case the client wanted to purchase more printed photos. When you purchase a digital image with print rights, it's the same thing as purchasing a negative. You have the ability to share the photos online with friends and family and order your own prints from your preferred company. We still recommend purchasing prints, canvases and custom-designed albums through us for the absolute best professional quality and cannot guarantee the quality of prints not purchased through us.
